DESCRIPTION:Ileya Festival is the period for Muslim celebration with families and friends. It is called Eid-al-Adha\, otherwise known as Eid-al-Kabir in Arabic\, one of the relevant feasts in Islam. It is also known as the festival of rams\, feast of sacrifice\, season of love\, triumph over adversity for Muslims. The meaning from Hausa layya meaning ”Eid al-Adha\, sacrificing a ram” or ile (house) plus ”ya” (to be ready)\, literally ”the house is ready” or could arguably translates to ”ready for home”. \nHistory has it\, according to the Qur’an and the Bible\, that this occasion originated from the days of Prophet Ibrahim\, otherwise known as Abraham\, who was called upon by God to sacrifice Ismaaeel\, his only Son at a time\, for the Almighty. The details are for another day. \nAs a tradition in hosting every last Wednesday of the month show\, the Tenstrings Music Institute will be having a one2watch live music show from 6PM at the Lagos Frontline Entertainment Centre\, Freedom Park Lagos. The objective of this tournament is to encourage and promote young and upcoming boxing champions in Nigeria\, which will be held quarterly. \nThis sophomore edition in partnership with Freedom Park and Lagos Boxing Initiative\, and it is sanctioned by the Nigerian Boxing Board of Control (NBBofC)\, is a bid to celebrate Nigeria’s democracy and to express the anxiety of a renewed hope by the new democratic administration. \nOn Monday\, 12th of June\, Freedom Park will receive the influx of professional boxers\, and enthusiasts who are either participating in the tournament or attending to enjoy the sporting event. Robert was considered one of the pioneers of reggae. His musical career was marked by fusing elements of reggae\, ska\, and rocksteady\, as well as his distinctive vocal and songwriting style. In the course of his career\, he became known as a Rastafari icon\, and infused his music with a sense of what is considered spirituality. \nBob Marley began his professional musical career in 1963\, after forming the Teenagers with Peter Tosh and Bunny Wailer\, which after several name changes\, transformed into becoming The Wailers. \nNesta is also considered a global symbol of Jamaican music\, culture and identity\, and was controversial in his outspoken support for democratic social reforms. In 1976\, Marley survived an assassination attempt in his home\, which was thought to be politically motivated. DESCRIPTION:Harry Belafonte (born Harold George Bellanfanti Jr.; March 1\, 1927 – April 25\, 2023) was an American singer\, actor and activist\, who popularized calypso music with international audiences in the 1950s. Belafonte is one of the few performers to have received an Emmy\, Grammy\, Oscar\, and Tony (EGOT)\, although he won the Oscar in a non-competitive category. He earned his career breakthrough with the album Calypso (1956)\, which was the first million-selling LP by a single artist. \nBelafonte was best known for his recordings of “Day-O (The Banana Boat Song)”\, “Jump in the Line (Shake\, Senora)”\, “Jamaica Farewell”\, and “Mary’s Boy Child”. He recorded and performed in many genres\, including blues\, folk\, gospel\, show tunes\, and American standards. He also starred in films such as Carmen Jones (1954)\, Island in the Sun (1957)\, Odds Against Tomorrow (1959)\, Buck and the Preacher (1972)\, and Uptown Saturday Night (1974). He made his final screen appearance in Spike Lee’s BlacKkKlansman (2018). \nBelafonte considered the actor\, singer\, and activist Paul Robeson a mentor\, and he was a close confidant of Martin Luther King Jr. during the Civil Rights Movement of the 1950s and 1960s. He was a vocal critic of the policies of the George W. Bush and Donald Trump administrations. DESCRIPTION:A Doctor of History who doubles as a musician\, saxophonist\, Singer-songwriter and the band leader of ”Aluta Band.” Dr. Temitope Fagunwa is a Marxist historian with a central focus on African economic history in the Department of History and International Studies\, Osun State University. \nHe is a budding social justice revolutionary and epistemic-decolonizer. Temitope is a co-founder of the Pan-African Consciousness Renaissance (PACOR-Nigeria) and the Movement of Pan-Afrikanist Students (MOPAS-Nigeria). He is a leading member of the Global Afrikan Congress Intl (Canada) and Afrocentricity International (USA). \nHe has published academic papers and chapters in reputable journals and books\, respectively. Temitope has featured on several television and radio talk shows in Nigeria and Ghana. Beyond the academia\, he is also the lead vocalist\, composer and tenor saxophonist of the Aluta Band – an Afrobeat based musical band. \nDr. Fagunwa\, otherwise known as Maberu will be performing live alongside his Aluta Band\, at Freedom Park on Friday April 21\, from 6:00PM.
