DESCRIPTION:The journey of a million miles starts with single steps\, the sages say. It has been ages of rigorous daily rehearsals at Freedom Park Lagos. A group of kids under the tutelage of a young and vibrant dance coach with so much tenacity\, focus\, and vision who has been taking a number of dance enthusiasts and aspiring professionals the ropes of dancing. \nThe Starkids Academy will be clocking 10 this Saturday\, 27th May the Childrens’ Day. The anniversary celebration will flow throughout the day\, from 10AM till 4PM for the Childrens’ Fun Fair\, and then the Dance Concert will emerge from 6PM till about 11:30PM. The Fun Fair access fee is N200 per child\, while the Dance Concert will attract N1\,000 regular fee and N5\,000 for VIP. \nIn partnership with Freedom Park Lagos\, this occasion will welcome the dance community from across the entertainment industry\, and a huge number of kids and students from various schools\, to be a part of the history. \nCome and have a good dance experience at Freedom Park! \n  \n  \n  \n

DESCRIPTION:Take a pause and think of what comes to your mind at the mention of the name Robert Nesta Marley otherwise known as Bob Marley. \nA singer-songwriter\, and musician\, born at the farm of his maternal grandfather in Nine Mile\, Saint Ann Parish\, Jamaica\, to Norval Sinclair Marley and Cedella Malcom. Robert was considered one of the pioneers of reggae. His musical career was marked by fusing elements of reggae\, ska\, and rocksteady\, as well as his distinctive vocal and songwriting style. He was born on the 6th of February 1945\, and unfortunately bade the world a bye on the 11th of May 1981. \nBob’s contributions to music increased the visibility of Jamaican music worldwide and made him a global figure in popular culture. In the course of his career\, he became known as a Rastafari icon\, and infused his music with a sense of what is considered spirituality. \nBob Marley began his professional musical career in 1963\, after forming the Teenagers with Peter Tosh and Bunny Wailer\, which after several name changes\, transformed into becoming The Wailers. \nNesta is also considered a global symbol of Jamaican music\, culture and identity\, and was controversial in his outspoken support for democratic social reforms. In 1976\, Marley survived an assassination attempt in his home\, which was thought to be politically motivated. He also supported legalization of marijuana and advocated for Pan-Africanism. \nOn this Friday May 6\, Freedom Park Lagos\, is hosting the Robert Nesta Marley Day in partnership with Folusho Clarke and the Smash Band\, featuring guest Artistes. \nCome and have a fulfilled weekend beginning on Bob’s Day at Freedom Park Lagos.

Tickets are available for Children at N500 and Adults at N1\,000 respectively\, standard is N5\,000 and N10\,000 for VIP. SUMMARY:iREP INTERNATIONAL DOCUMENTARY FILM FESTIVAL
DESCRIPTION:The 13th iRepresent International Documentary Film Festival\, which has held traditionally in the third week of march every year\, is slated for March 16-19. This is within the election season which starts with the Presidential and National Assembly polls on February 25 and\, the Governorship and House of Assembly polls on March 11. This coincidence would naturally have optioned either a postponement or outright cancellation of the festival\, which seems logical. \nHowever\, with determination not to miss out on the historical trajectory of the festival\, especially after the major disruption occasioned by the Covid19 pandemic lockdowns of 2020 and 2021\, the Board and management of the Foundation for the Promotion of Documentary Film in Africa\, organisers of the annual documentary film festival\, have resolved to stage a minimised version of the festival at same appointed date. \nThe coincidence with the electioneering season\, of course\, has consequential disruptions to the nature and character of the festival. Essentially\, it also has implication for the thematic thrust of the festival. Thus\, unlike in previous editions\, in which the festival embraces global thematic thrust\, the 2023 festival would specifically focus on Nigeria in its season of epochal political transition. \nThe theme: Documenting the Underserved: Agenda for Nigeria 2023\, has been strategically designed to address cogent issue in the national polity\, which essentially is about enthroning responsible political system that insists on good governance and participatory democracy – two ingredients that have been lacking in Nigeria’s chequered 24-year-old democratic journey which began in 1999. \nPart of the objectives of the theme is to direct attention of particularly young people to the power of documentary films in empowering them to be active participants in the discourses in their socio-political\, economic and cultural environment. \nSpecifically\, the theme\, as would be reflected in choice of films to be screened and discussions at the minimised plenary\, is to spotlight the powerful tool the young people have in their hands through their smart phones and other electronic gadgets\, through which they could expose the needs of their communities for the benefit of their elected representatives\, who hopefully would be assuming their various offices with fresh mindset of serving the interest of their people. \nAs feared\, the Gubernatorial and House of Assembly elections slated for Saturday\, March 11 has been shifted to Saturday March 18\, which runs smack into the March 16-19 date for the 2023 iREP Documentary Film Festival. The Board and Programme Directorate of the festival have\, however\, resolved to PROCEED with the festival as scheduled. \nThe IREP runs from Thursday through Sunday; as it stands\, only the Saturday Programing content will be adversely affected. This means that the Plenary sessions (all virtual) will run as planned\, only the evening screening on Saturday evening at the various centres will be affected. \n
