Historical Space

Our Achievements [2010-2020]
‗A former prison turned centre for creative expression.‘
Freedom Park is under the management of LORK Enterprises LLP― an SPV comprising Total Consult Ltd, Arc. Theo Lawson, Femi Odugbemi, Sewa Kpotie (deceased) and Iyabo Aboaba who have over the years developed and expanded the ethos of the centre to what is today a most celebrated Arts and Culture space in Nigeria and beyond. In effect, the heightened commitment of the Park towards the propagation of the arts has made it an integral part of the State‘s arts scene.
With Nobel laureate Prof. Wole Soyinka as our principal Patron and Trustee, as well as the Omooba Yemisi Shyllon sculpture gardens, the credibility and reputation of Freedom Park remains incontestable. It has managed to dispel the long held phobia of visiting Lagos Island and the fear of ‗area boys‘.
In 2015, it was awarded the Trip Advisor Certificate of Excellence and is listed on most tourist sites as a must visit when in Lagos.
Recently, Freedom Park became home to the Society of Nigerian Artists (SNA), also hosting monthly meetings and other social events of the Nigerian Institute of Architects (Lagos Chapter).
It is host to over twelve arts and culture versed festivals in a year; stages monthly performances, visual art exhibitions, and boasts of live music performances at least once or twice weekly.

Green Space

Freedom Park provides a much needed green and serene space in Lagos Island as well as beautifully landscaped gardens to make it attractive to both tourists and the general public.

The calming effect of being around trees and flowers can significantly reduce stress hereby promoting a healthy lifestyle. The leaves filter the air we breathe, release oxygen and absorb air pollutants such as carbon monoxide, sulphur dioxide.

Some of the species of trees and flowers grown in the Park are: Queens Palm, Fish tail Palm, Moringa, Almond, Paw Paw, Weeping Fig, Mango, Bougainvillea, Mauritius Hemp, Jacob‘s Coat, Devil‘s Backbone, Giant Spider Lilies, Crown of Thorns amongst several others.
